Communications Development announces publication of Human Development Report 2001: Making New Technologies Work for Human Development

Summer 2001
Communications Development announces the publication of Human Development Report 2001, a high-profile product of the United Nations Development Programme's Human Development Report Office.

Since 1990 Communications Development has worked closely with the Human Development Report Office to plan, design, edit, and produce this highly visible and important report. The 2001 edition of the Human Development Report looks at how the advent of new technologies will affect developing countries and poor people—how technological change can advance human development by improving human health, nutrition, and knowledge and by enabling communication, participation, and economic growth.

This award-winning publication is the Human Development Report Office's flagship statistical reference of leading human development indicators. It provides an expanded examination of 28 indicators for 162 countries—taking a broad view of the development and condition of the world and its peoples. Additionally, the book's five chapters examine the past, present, and future of human development, creating the network age from today's technology transformations, managing the risks of technological change, national strategies for unleashing human creativity, and global initiatives to create technologies for human development, with support from some 20 tables, 30 boxes, 15 figures, and 7 special features.

This publication is available through United Nations Publications, Room DC2-853, New York, NY 10017. For more information on these publications, including how to order, visit http://www.un.org/Publications. The full text of the report and supplementary materials are available from the Human Development Report Office.
