Communications Development Incorporated announces Spring 2003 publications

Communications Development announces the publication of several new books that the company managed, designed, edited, and produced in the Spring of 2003.

Human Security Now: Protecting and Empowering People

In May 2003, Human Security Now—the report of the independent Commission on Human Security—was presented by Mrs. Sadako Ogata, former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and Prof. Amartya Sen, Nobel laureate in economic science, to the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.

The report proposes a new security framework that concentrates directly on people. Human security focuses on shielding people from critical and pervasive threats and empowering them to take charge of their lives. It demands creating genuine opportunities for people to live in safety and dignity and earn their livelihood.

The report can be accessed at http://www.humansecurity-chs.org.

Making Global Trade Work for People

Making Global Trade Work for People presents a far-reaching reassessment of the current multilateral trade regime and examines how it can be improved so that it contributes genuinely to human development. The book was prepared by an international team of experts and co-sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Heinrich Boell Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, and Wallace Global Fund.

World Water Actions: Making Water Flow for All

World Water Actions presents an overview and analysis of almost 3,000 actions being taken around the globe to solve the world's water crisis. It documents innovative global water actions and water success stories from projects, applied research and studies, awareness-raising campaigns, and polices and institutional reform. These activities address the priorities identified at the 2nd World Water Forum in The Hague in 2000 and respond to the challenges of integrated water resources management. The report is a key part of the World Water Council's efforts to realize the 2nd Forum's World Water Vision.

The report was prepared by the Water Action Unit of the World Water Council and was the main input to the Ministerial Conference at the 3rd Water Forum in March 2003.

The report can be read online at http://www.worldwatercouncil.org/wwa_contents.shtml.
