Communications Development announces publication of World Development Indicators 2001 and World Bank Atlas 2001

Spring 2001
Communications Development announces the publication of the 5th edition of the World Development Indicators and 33rd edition of the World Bank Atlas, both products of the World Bank's Development Data Group. Since 1997 Communications Development has worked closely with the Development Data Group on planning, designing, editing, and producing both publications, and this year's editions boast some excellent new features.

World Development Indicators 2001
The 2001 edition offers an enhanced user's guide and a new design for the six section introductions on major development issues. By focusing on the international development goals in the "World view" chapter, this book captures the most important issues facing developing countries: health, education, and basic welfare; sustainable use of natural resources and reversal of environmental losses; economic growth and management of the economy; the complementary roles of governments and the private sector; and the continuing integration with the world economy.

This award-winning publication is the World Bank's flagship statistical reference, providing an expanded view of the world economy for 148 countries—with more than 80 statistical tables and 60 charts that offer a broad view of the development and condition of the world and its people. The publication is designed to organize the data into six thematic areas, all bearing on global development.

World Bank Atlas 2001
The 2001 edition mirrors the theme and the handsome and highly accessible design of the World Development Indicators. Like the indicators volume, the atlas's "World view" chapter features the international development goals. The atlas is printed in four colors with 22 maps and more than 60 charts that illustrate key world development trends. With text in English, French, and Spanish, the atlas is an important reference and resource for schoolchildren, economists, policymakers, and others throughout the world.

Both publications are available at the World Bank and through retail and Web-based booksellers. For more information on these publications, including how to order, visit http://www.worldbank.org/data.
